Quiver Tree Forest

$1

This is a Quiver Tree forest just outside Nieuwoudtville. It is called a forest, but it definitely is not a forest I'm used to. It is a very unusual tree, and the bark peels of like skin. It is called “quiver tree” because Bushmen use its branches to make quivers. In Afrikaans it is called a "Koker boom". The tree can reach an age of 80 years, and will flower for the first time only when it is 20 to 30 years old. Disclaimer. No trees we're harmed during this photoshoot!
